THE FIRST CREW

We Ran The Experiment. It Worked.

In Jan 2025, we brought together 5 creators from Bangalore: photographers, editors, writers, strategists — and gave them one goal: build something real.

They worked on live campaigns. They shot original content. They ran actual creative strategy for Blend's brand. They made mistakes, found their voice, and grew fast. By the end of the cohort, they weren't interns anymore. They were creators who knew how to work.

I came in thinking this would be straightforward. Write some copy, maybe help coordinate a shoot or two. That was the whole picture in my head. It wasn't. Content is not about volume. It is about knowing what a brand sounds like and then finding the words that actually match that. Getting that right took longer than I expected, and it made me realise how much intention goes into things that look effortless on the outside. Outreach and team communication were their own learning curve. Things move fast, and when work is interdependent, you cannot afford to go quiet. Being clear and being reliable ended up mattering more than being impressive. Shoots changed how I think about preparation entirely. The equipment side was the easy part. The harder part was understanding who you were shooting, what the story actually was, and how to stay curious in the middle of it all. Analytics surprised me too. I expected data entry. What I got was a lesson in reading context, understanding why numbers move and what they are pointing at beyond the surface. The pace did something to me. When time is limited, sitting on an idea becomes a liability. You need enough of a foundation to move, and then you just have to. The moment I remember most clearly is when I got something wrong. Not a small thing. It pushed me to understand what accountability actually means, not as a concept but as a habit. You own it, you fix it, you move. I started this thinking my job was to execute tasks. I ended it understanding I was part of something that required me to think, adapt, and show up fully. That shift is the thing I am taking with me. So is this: you cannot do any of it alone. At some point you have to trust the people around you, believe they will hold their end, and focus on holding yours. That trust is what makes a team actually function.

Working at Blend really changed how I approach creativity. It pushed me to look beyond surface level content and focus on finding meaningful stories and the “why” behind them. I’ve learnt how to take an idea from concept to execution, and gained a lot more confidence in owning my work. More than anything, Blend showed me the value of community driven storytelling creating not just content, but something that actually connects with people.
